    HD Live Ultrasounds Provide Images in a New Light

    HDlive Ultrasounds are an extraordinary rendering method generating amazingly realistic images of the human fetus from sonographic data. Through the use of an advanced illumination model, HDlive Ultrasounds support shadows, a virtual light source and advanced skin rendering techniques. This new method exploits the superb image quality provided by the latest generation of beam forming technology, speckle reduction algorithms and compound resolution imaging technologies on Voluson E8 and Voluson E8 Expert systems.

    Conventional rendering methods utilize a fixed virtual light source which reflects the light off the skin surface. HDlive differs in that it calculates the propagation of light through skin and tissue. As the light from the virtual light source enters the body, a portion of the light is reflected towards the eye while the remaining light enters the area of interest and passes through it. The light propagating through the tissue is continually scattered and attenuated. Shadows will appear where the light has travelled through denser tissue. The user may freely position a virtual light source at any angle relative to the ultrasound volume to enhance details. Positioning the virtual light source behind the scene will show the effect of translucency.

    HDlive is possible by using the second generation Dynamic Rendering Engine which performs computations in a massively parallel implementation on a dedicated graphics processing unit boasting 20 times the processing power of a desktop pc.

What’s the Difference Between a 3D, 4D, and HD Ultrasound?

2D Ultrasound: This is the traditional ultrasound technology and is likely what you receive at your doctor’s office. In 2D, high frequency, non-ionized sound waves are sent and received in a single plane. The sound waves reflect back a black and white image of the baby. 2D ultrasounds are regularly used to evaluate fetal anatomy and morphology. At Precious Memories we use 2D technology to determine the gender of your new baby.

3D Ultrasound: 3D ultrasounds were developed using image volume data acquisition. 3D technology utilizes the same high frequency sound waves as 2D and is just as safe to use. The sound waves create reflections from different angles to each other; our ultrasound technology then merges these reflections with its high-speed computing software, resulting in a 3-dimensional image. At Precious Memories, we use 3D ultrasound technology to give you a life-like view of your baby.

4D Ultrasound: 4D ultrasounds are very similar to 3D ultrasounds but with the addition of real time while the ultrasound is being performed. This process allows new parents to watch your baby LIVE and in real time. At Precious Memories, we can record these moving images for you.
